An analysis of your cat’s urine forms the basis for diagnosing and conducting follow-up treatment of chronic cystitis. However, it can be difficult enough for your veterinarian to collect your cat’s urine under good conditions, never mind if you cat is stressed, not very cooperative, has an empty bladder, is feeling pain, etc.

Collecting urine at home will help save time, avoid unpleasant handling of your cat and allow you to make the best of follow-up treatment. Thanks to the Catrine Pearl urine collection kit, you can provide your veterinarian with a good quality urine sample.

More info

Thanks to the Catrine Pearl urine collection kit, collecting your cat’s urine has been made as simple as possible and can be done at home, with subjecting your cat to undue stress. Catrine Pearl Litter does not absorb urine, allowing you to collect enough urine for your veterinarian to test it.

Catrine Pearl Litter collection kit contents:

  • 200 grams of non-absorbent cat litter
  • A urine collection pipette
  • A plastic collection tube to which you can transfer the urine to take to your veterinarian

Catrine Pearl Litter urine collection kit - instructions for use:

  • Empty the cat's litter tray and clean it
  • Rinse the cat's litter tray several times with lukewarm water and wipe it out well with a clean cloth.
  • Empty the entire contents of the Catrine Pearl litter into the cat's litter tray and return the tray to its usual spot.

As soon as your cat has urinated, collect its urine immediately as follows:

  • Gently lift one corner of the cat's litter tray so that all the urine can collect in one corner.
  • Using the pipette, suck up as much of the urine as possible.
  • Transfer the urine into the transport tube by gently squeezing the pipette.

IMPORTANT: Note that the urine must be collected quickly as soon as the cat has urinated, and the sample must be taken immediately to your veterinarian before it deteriorates and cannot be analysed.

Direct-Vet recommends:

  • The best is to take the urine to your veterinarian within an hour of collecting it. If you have made an appointment with your veterinarian, plan to collect the urine just before.
  • If you do not have an appointment and plan simply to drop off the urine sample for testing, collect the urine during the clinic’s office hours and when you have the time to take the sample there.
  • If you cannot deliver the urine within an hour of collecting it, place the sample in the fridge until you leave (but not in the freezer). You must drop the sample off within 12 hours from the collection time, no later.
  • Final bit of advice: When you get to the clinic, inform the veterinary assistant immediately that you have brought in a urine sample for testing - this might make the analysis happen sooner ;-)

Note: You might be able to rinse the cat litter for one more use.
To do so, place it in a mesh bag (or a sieve) and rinse thoroughly with hot water.

Allow the litter to drip dry and air dry, and once it is completely dry, store in a plastic zip lock bag. Proceed in the same manner to clean the pipette and the collection tube.
