A diabetic dog needs special food to allow it to regulate its blood sugar levels (called glycaemia). Therefore, a dog's diet must be low in sugar (starch) but rich in protein, to maintain muscle mass.

Royal Canin Glycobalance kibbles for dogs ((formerly Royal Canin Diabetic)) is specially formulated to regulate the glycemic index in dogs suffering from diabetes mellitus. Royal Canin Glycobalance kibbles can be eaten for the duration of a dog's life, from the age of 6 months.
